Urban Pop-up & Parade: BODY. SPACE. MOVEMENT

#RotterdamCentraal #Central Bibliotheek Rotterdam #MusuemBoijmansVanBeurningen

Apr 2019

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the quirky German design school Bauhaus. The installation ‘body space movement’ has been designed for the exhibition  ‘netherlands ⇄ bauhaus – pioneers of a new world’ by Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (on view until 26 May 2019). The museum has invited eleven students from the department Interior Architecture & Furniture Design of the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague to design a contemporary pop-up installation and parade.

The students were inspired by the Vorkurs, Bauhaus festivals and parades. During the Vorkurs, first year Bauhaus students were stimulated to expand their view of the ever-changing world. ‘body space movement’ is an interpretation of these Vorkurs. The pop-up installation contains elements that introduce the public to the design principles of the Bauhaus. Parts of the installation are carried through the streets according to a certain choreography as if in a prade and taken to the destination. A small presentation at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is devoted to the research and design process.

During the exhibition  ‘netherlands ⇄ bauhaus – pioneers of a new world’ the pop-up comes to life by means of a parade and can be admired at various times and locations in Rotterdam. The complete tour schedule can be found on the other side of this installation.

Lighting sponsored by Erco.

Participating students:

Iris Bossen, Sarah Bovelett, Joyce Edel, Rowan Graaf, Maple He, Aaron Kopp, Mabel Kraus, Bart Krijnen, Sasha Pirazhenka, Tijs Struijk and Daphne van der Veer.
